In Boys and Ballet, the character of Billy Elliot plays a central role, symbolizing a young boy’s internal and external struggle as he pursues his passion for ballet in a community that expects him to conform to traditional gender roles. Billy, a working-class boy from a mining town in Northern England, dreams of becoming a ballet dancer, an ambition that goes against the societal norms of masculinity in his environment. His journey is one of defiance, self-discovery, and resilience.

Billy’s connection to the world of ballet is more than just an interest it’s an expression of his individuality and a way for him to escape the hardships of his reality. His father and brother, both caught up in the town’s mining culture and its rigid gender expectations, initially resist Billy’s passion. His father, especially, is the embodiment of this societal pressure, believing that ballet is not a “manly” pursuit. This creates a tense relationship between them, but over time, Billy’s determination and skill in ballet begin to soften his father’s perspective.

The relationship between Billy and his dance teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, is equally important. She becomes a guiding figure in his life, recognizing his potential when no one else does. Mrs. Wilkinson encourages Billy to push beyond the confines of his town’s expectations and helps him understand that his talent is worth fighting for. Through her, Billy not only learns the art of ballet but also gains the confidence to stand up for his dreams, despite the adversity he faces at home and in his community.

Billy’s connection to ballet also acts as a form of personal liberation. His dancing is a way for him to express emotions he cannot articulate in words, especially in a family that is emotionally reserved. Ballet allows Billy to break free from the restrictive and often toxic expectations of masculinity that define his world, leading him to realize that strength doesn’t lie in conforming to societal norms but in following one’s true passion.

In conclusion, Billy Elliot in Boys and Ballet is a character whose growth and transformation are deeply tied to his relationship with ballet, which challenges the expectations of his community and family. His connection to dance becomes an empowering force in his life, helping him navigate personal, familial, and societal struggles while showing that following one’s passion, regardless of gender, can lead to personal fulfillment and change.

How does it relate to me

It relates to me because of the fact that I do boxing from time to time, and it’s mostly a sport made for males and less females until the year 2012 in Olympics—more than 100 years later—that women’s boxing was officially added to the Games.

Self study reading/writing “shifting views”

Exploring Shirting Views: A Simple Overview

Shirting Views is a fascinating book that dives into the world of fashion, particularly focusing on the significance and evolution of shirts in our clothing choices. The book covers various aspects of shirts, from their history and cultural impact to the way they influence modern fashion. It is a must-read for anyone interested in fashion, clothing, or just curious about how a simple garment can have such a profound effect on our lives.

Historical Perspective

The book begins by tracing the origins of shirts. Shirts, as we know them today, have evolved from simple undergarments to essential pieces of clothing. The book explains that in the past, shirts were often worn as under-layers and were not visible. They were usually made from basic fabrics and had a very utilitarian purpose.

Over time, shirts began to take on a more prominent role in fashion. In the 19th century, for example, shirts became more decorative and were often worn with elaborate suits. This period marked a shift where shirts were no longer just practical items but also statements of style and social status.

Cultural Impact

One of the most interesting sections of Shirting Views explores how shirts have influenced various cultures. For example, the book describes how different regions have their own unique styles of shirts that reflect their traditions and values. In some cultures, shirts are a symbol of formal wear, while in others, they represent casual or everyday attire.

The book also delves into how shirts can be used to express identity. For instance, in the 20th century, the T-shirt became a canvas for personal expression. People started using T-shirts to showcase political slogans, band logos, and other personal messages. This trend highlights how shirts can go beyond just being clothing—they can become a means of communication and self-expression.

Fashion Evolution

Shirting Views also covers the evolution of shirt designs and styles. The book explains how shirts have changed over the decades. From the early button-down shirts to the modern, trendy variations, shirts have adapted to fit different fashion trends.

The book describes how the fit and fabric of shirts have evolved. In the past, shirts were often loose and baggy, but today, many people prefer a more tailored fit. Fabrics have also advanced, with modern shirts made from a wide range of materials including cotton, linen, and synthetic blends. This variety allows people to choose shirts that fit their style and comfort preferences.

Design Innovations

The design of shirts is another key topic in the book. Shirting Views examines how designers have experimented with different elements such as collars, cuffs, and patterns. For example, the book highlights the significance of the collar, which has undergone many changes. From the simple, classic collars of the past to the more elaborate and decorative collars of today, this detail has a big impact on the overall look of a shirt.

Patterns are also an important aspect of shirt design. The book discusses how patterns like stripes, checks, and prints have become popular over time. These patterns can make a shirt stand out and reflect the wearer’s personality. The evolution of shirt patterns shows how fashion constantly changes and how people use clothing to make a statement.

Shirts in the Modern Era

In the modern era, shirts continue to play a crucial role in fashion. Shirting Views explores current trends and how shirts fit into contemporary wardrobes. The book notes that while fashion trends come and go, shirts remain a staple in almost every wardrobe. This enduring popularity is due to their versatility and ability to adapt to various styles.

The book also touches on how technology has influenced shirt production. With advancements in fabric technology and manufacturing processes, shirts can now offer features like wrinkle resistance and moisture-wicking properties. These innovations make shirts more practical and comfortable, reflecting the changing needs and preferences of today’s consumers.

Environmental and Ethical Considerations

An important topic covered in Shirting Views is the environmental and ethical impact of shirt production. The book addresses concerns about the fashion industry’s effects on the environment, including issues like pollution and waste. It also discusses ethical considerations, such as fair labor practices and the importance of supporting brands that prioritize sustainability.

The book encourages readers to think about their clothing choices and consider the impact of their purchases. By being more mindful of where and how shirts are made, consumers can contribute to a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry.

Conclusion

Shirting Views offers a comprehensive look at the shirt, from its historical origins to its role in modern fashion. The book covers a wide range of topics, including the evolution of shirt designs, cultural influences, and the impact of technology. It also addresses important issues related to sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry.

Overall, Shirting Views is a valuable resource for anyone interested in fashion or the history of clothing. Its exploration of shirts highlights how this seemingly simple garment has a rich history and continues to play a significant role in our lives. By reading this book, readers can gain a deeper appreciation for shirts and their place in the world of fashion.

24.Anzac Google Drawing Room11

Kia ora, This is my digital Google drawing of an ANZAC battle field  which we did with Matua Aina last week Tuesday ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It commemorates the soldiers from Australia and New Zealand who fought together during World War I, particularly in the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915. ANZAC Day, observed on April 25th each year, honors the bravery and sacrifice of these soldiers. It has become a significant day of remembrance for both countries, symbolizing the values of courage, mateship, and national pride. For those who dont know ANZAC is remembered for the bravery, sacrifice, and camaraderie of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought together, particularly during the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. Despite facing harsh conditions and heavy casualties, these troops demonstrated remarkable resilience and courage. ANZAC Day, observed on April 25th each year, commemorates their service and sacrifice, and it has become a symbol of national identity, unity, and remembrance for both Australia and New Zealand. The ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) primarily consisted of soldiers from Australia and New Zealand. However, the term “ANZAC” has come to symbolize the shared experiences of all Australian and New Zealand soldiers who served together during World War I, particularly during the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915. While the majority of ANZAC troops were Australian and New Zealanders, there were also British, Indian, and French forces involved in the Gallipoli Campaign. Additionally, in later conflicts where ANZAC forces participated, such as World War II, there was broader coalition involvement, including forces from various Allied nations. The exact number of individuals who served in the ANZAC forces during the war varies, but estimates suggest that around 416,000 Australians and 131,000 New Zealanders served overseas during WWI, many of whom were part of the ANZAC forces. In terms of casualties, during the Gallipoli Campaign alone, which is perhaps the most iconic part of ANZAC history, there were approximately 8,709 Australians and 2,721 New Zealanders killed. However, these numbers only account for one part of the overall conflict. Throughout World War I, the total number of ANZAC casualties, including those killed, wounded, or missing, was significantly higher. For Australia, it’s estimated that around 62,000 soldiers died during the war, while for New Zealand, around 18,000 soldiers lost their lives.

Overcoming life And Experiencing More

Kia ora,

Tonight, I am picking up where I left off with my writing, which was a poem. Finally, as I prepared to attend a funeral tomorrow, I realized life lessons and meanings while writing these poems. My life lessons have taught me much more than just how to recover from mistakes and that life is not all about one thing. Consider your life to be a book, with one sad chapter followed by another; consider everything that happens each year to be a chapter of a book. Not everything will always be happy, but there will be happy and sad times. Not only that, but there will be times when you feel overwhelmed and angry. I had times when I did not want to get over things and learn about them, and it was difficult, but I learned how to get over the majority of it and learn from my mistakes, and I hope everyone else does as well as myself.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and enjoys reading my blog as much as I did writing it. and I hope to be able to tell you more about how my holiday has been and how it went. TBC

Messy Park Pools

Kia Ora,

This afternoon, Hine and I went to the pools and visited local shops. We learned about addition, subtraction, and multiplication, which are essential skills in personal life. We also learned about the importance of math in our daily lives. After leaving the shops, we took a break at a messy park to eat and take a break before heading to the pools. This experience highlights the importance of learning mathematics in personal and professional life. After swimming at the pools, we began to leave as the time slowly hit 5–6. We left for the messy park stadium to eat lunch on the hill before ending our day.

Christmas At The Park

Yesterday, Edmund Hillary went to the Christmas at the park to perform our dances at the Papakura Marea, there were many options from games to food and bouncy castles. since room 9 and room 2 were too big to perform. When we performed on the ground just in front of the stage we all stood there and began to perform. after our performance, we sat down, and then Room 10 and Room 1 began to perform their dance. Right after rooms 10 & 1 Room 11 started their dance which was a Samoan dance when they began to perform their siblings began to cheer them as we watched them perform and as the end of our performance came we lined up to exit the gate the employees gave us ice blocks. before we all separated to do our things, we did a class count and then separated from our classmates some bidding each other their goodbyes, and the rest spent their time hanging out i was there till 7 then left to walk around town with my Sister – in law. I look forward to doing this again next year.
